چکیده

Method We performed a retrospective review of patients who underwent cardiac surgery over a 4-year period (20122015). Patients were stratified into three HbA1c groups (I = HbA1c 20-41 mmol/mol; II = HbA1c 42-48 mmol/ mol; III = HbA1c 49-150 mmol/mol). Study end points were post-operative wound infection, stroke and renal failure. Chi-square test and independent sample t-test were performed to compare variables of interest.

Is a pre-operative brain natriuretic peptide or N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide measurement an independent predictor of adverse cardiovascular outcomes within 30 days of noncardiac surgery? A systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

OBJECTIVES We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine if pre-operative brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) (i.e., BNP or N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide [NT-proBNP]) is an independent predictor of 30-day adverse cardiovascular outcomes after noncardiac surgery. BACKGROUND Pre-operative clinical cardiac risk indices have only modest predictive power. BNP predicts adv...

Subtle changes in renal function are associated with differences in late survival following adult cardiac surgery.

OBJECTIVES To determine the predictors of post-operative renal function following adult cardiac surgery, and to assess the influence of this on late survival. METHODS Prospectively collected data were analysed on 8032 patients who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery or combined procedures from 1 January 1998 until 31 December 2008, who did not require preoperative renal r...

Inter-Operative Time between Neurosurgery and Cardiac Surgery for Native Valve Endocarditis

Introduction: Infective endocarditis is well known to produce neurologic complications from septic emboli, which mandates a multidisciplinary approach between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery. However, literature is not clear as to the optimal interval length between neurosurgery and cardiac surgery.Presentation of Cases: The first case involves a 60-year-old woman with significant past medical...

Preoperative regional cerebral oxygen saturation is a predictor of postoperative delirium in on-pump cardiac surgery patients: a prospective observational trial

INTRODUCTION Postoperative delirium is an important problem in patients undergoing major surgery. Cerebral oximetry is a non-invasive method to detect imbalances in the cerebral oxygen supply/demand-ratio. Low preoperative cerebral oxygen saturation (ScO₂) levels have been associated with postoperative delirium in non-cardiac surgery patients. The present prospective observational study determi...
